Patna, March 3 :Police began a probe Monday into an alleged extortion demand by Santosh Kumar, son of a Bharatiya Janata Party legislator Jawahar Prasad.
Kumar is said to have threatened a construction firm engaged in a road project in Rohtas district 175 km from here.

Though a first information report (FIR) had been filed against Kumar Saturday by the undertaking's manager Sanjay Kumar Singh, investigation got underway only after opposition pressure, police sources said.
Singh alleged that Kumar, aided by four others, assaulted him after a vain bid to extort a sum of Rs.125,000 and threatened him with dire consequences.
Singh suffered minor injuries and was treated as an outpatient in a private nursing home.
Prasad, however, charged Singh with an attempt to cover his misdeeds.
The project is situated in Sasaram, near the tomb of Sher Shah Suri (1472-1545), who founded an empire after overthrowing Mughal emperor Humayun. Also known as Sher Khan (lion king), Suri authored path-breaking reforms and initiated several infrastructure projects during his lifetime, which left a deep imprint in the minds of the locals.
Significantly, Suri's five-storey mausoleum stands on a minor lake whose waters have turned acidic, threatening its very existence.
