Bihari student loses eye-sight in train near Delhi

Patna, (Bihar Times): This did not happen in Bihar, but to a Bihari student.
Twenty-four-year old Deenbandhu Diwakar was a gold medalist from Patna University and at present B Ed student of Delhi University. He was simultaneously preparing for civil sevice examination. He hails from Nokha block of Rohtas district of Sasaram.

Now he is in the All India Institute of Medical Sciences battling to save his eye-sight. He along with 63 students had gone on an educational trip to Bhopal. While returning on Monday they were attacked by a mob consisting of commuters on the Kosi-Palwal rail route (Haryana).

According to the media reports from Delhi the S-9 reserved coach they were travelling in while returning to Delhi was decoupled from the rest of the train and surrounded by a mob of more than 60 miscreants who smashed windowpanes, pelted the students with stones and threw flaming missiles dipped in kerosene in a bid to set it ablaze.
As he tried to throw back one of the flaming fireballs thrown inside the coach through the broken emergency window Diwakar was hit on his right eye by a stone thrown by someone in the mob.

Doctors at AIIMS said that Diwakar’s eyesight continues to be critical. Already one operation has been conducted and he will have to undergo two more to set his retina right. His brother, Manohar, student of law in Benaraas Hindu University, has arrived and parents too are on way.

Diwakar was staying at Permanand Colony in Mukherjee Nagar. Initially, he was reluctant to let the news of his injury trickle down to family members because his youngest sister is to get married next month.

Meanwhile, the RPF have launched a manhunt to nab all those responsible for the attack on the passengers of the Express train on Monday.
