Chandigarh, March 13: Authorities in Haryana found 2,399 unidentified and unclaimed bodies along railway tracks and at stations between 2003 and 2007. In a bid to have the dead people identified, they are now going to hold special camps in Bihar, as they feel most of the dead were from that state.
The government railway police (GRP) in Haryana Tuesday announced that it would hold a special campaign at railway stations in Bihar to enable people to identify the bodies.

A Haryana police spokesperson said Tuesday that 2,399 unidentified bodies remained unclaimed in the state between 2003 and 2007.
The bodies are those recovered by the GRP under its jurisdiction - mainly along railway tracks and railway stations across Haryana.
Since the bodies seem to GRP officials as being those of migrant workers, mainly from Bihar, the camps are being held in that state. Hundreds of migrant workers from Bihar come to Haryana every month.
The spokesman said that the GRP had earlier held camps for getting the bodies identified within Haryana but only eight bodies could be identified.
The identification camps have now been planned at Patna railway station March 14-16, Bhagalpur March 17-18, Muzaffarpur March 20-21, Katihar March 23-24 and Chhapra March 25-26.
An exhibition of the photographs and belongings found with the bodies would be put up at the camps to assist the relatives of the deceased in identification.
The spokesperson said that the photographs of the dead bodies would be shown on projectors, making it easier for the relatives to identify the bodies.
